LONG BEACH September 23, 2004—Steve Kuykendall, candidate for the 54th Assembly District, received the unanimous endorsement of the Avalon city council following a day-long campaign stop on Catalina island.

Kuykendall spent the day on the island talking to voters and was given a tour of the new City Hall by Mayor Ralph Morrow and Mayor Pro tem Tim Winslow. He was available to speak directly to voters during a scheduled “neighborhood coffee” reception, and spoke with local shopkeepers and business owners during a walking tour of the downtown area.

Kuykendall also attended a lunch with the Avalon Rotary Club, as well as a dinner sponsored by the Lions Club.

Kuykendall received the endorsements of Council members Bob Kennedy, John Regalado and Dan O’Connor adding to the prior support of Mayor Morrow and Mayor pro tem Winslow, making Kuykendall’s bid for the Assembly a unanimous endorsement.

“I am extremely grateful to have garnered the trust of the Avalon council,” said Kuykendall. “My experience in local government gives me unique insight into the needs of the community. Local government is where the rubber meets the road, and I have immense respect for their hard work and dedication.”

The 54th Assembly District is currently represented by Alan Lowenthal — who must give up the seat in 2004 due to term limits — and includes Long Beach, San Pedro, Signal Hill, Catalina Island and the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
