California's 47th Congressional District

California's newly created 47th Congressional
District is anchored in Long Beach which
represents 54% of the district. The district
then shifts slightly north and spreads
eastward into Orange County. In Los
Angeles County it also includes all or
portions of Avalon, Lakewood and
Signal Hill. The Orange County portion of
the district contains all or portions of Buena
Park, Cypress, Garden Grove, Los Alamitos,
Rossmoor, Stanton, and Westminster.

The district is home to independent voters who vote their conscience, not a political party. In 2008, John McCain won here, reflecting the voters' preference for a candidate with military experience. As a Marine Corps veteran who shares the values of 47th Congressional District voters, Steve Kuykendall has a strong advantage.

The City of Long Beach, a major maritime center, was recently named the "Aquatic Capitol of the Nation." The Port of Long Beach is the second busiest container port in the US and one of the world's largest shipping ports. The port generates over 300,000 jobs for district residents.

In Congress, Kuykendall served on the House Armed Services, Science, and Transportation
and Infrastructure Committees where he led efforts to protect and improve California's
ports and the vital jobs they provide
. He also worked to expand health care, protect
our coast, and preserve Social Security while fighting government waste and higher taxes.

Kuykendall is campaigning in the newly created district, a region where he has a solid record of winning tough campaigns against formidable Democrat opponents.
